Weather resistance refers to a material’s ability to maintain its physical and functional properties under long-term exposure to outdoor or harsh environmental conditions. PP synthetic paper excels in this aspect, with its performance manifested in four key specific areas, making it far more reliable than traditional paper in challenging environments.
First, it has strong resistance to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. When exposed to sunlight for a long time, traditional paper tends to fade (colors become dull or disappear), turn yellow, and even become brittle and easy to tear—this is because the cellulose in paper is decomposed by UV rays. PP synthetic paper, however, is inherently resistant to UV damage. Its polypropylene base material is not easily broken down by UV radiation, and many products are further added with UV stabilizers during production. This allows it to retain its original color and structural integrity even after months of outdoor exposure, making it ideal for outdoor signs, billboards, and outdoor event banners.
Second, it performs well in resisting temperature fluctuations. Traditional paper is sensitive to temperature: it may absorb moisture and warp in high humidity and high temperature, or become hard and brittle in low temperature (below 0°C), leading to cracks. PP synthetic paper has a wide temperature adaptation range. It remains flexible and does not become brittle at low temperatures (even as low as -20°C), and does not soften or deform excessively at high temperatures (below 60°C, which covers most daily outdoor high-temperature environments). For example, in cold northern winters, PP synthetic paper labels on outdoor equipment will not crack; in hot summer, it can still maintain the flatness of outdoor price tags in shopping malls.
Third, it is highly resistant to moisture and rain. This is one of its most well-known advantages over traditional paper. Traditional paper absorbs water quickly when exposed to rain or high humidity, becoming soft, wrinkled, and even disintegrating, and the printed content on it will blur or fade. PP synthetic paper has a non-porous surface, which can repel water effectively—rainwater will slide off its surface without being absorbed. Even in a long-term high-humidity environment (such as coastal areas with high air humidity), it will not absorb moisture or warp, and the printed text and patterns will remain clear. This makes it suitable for outdoor logistics labels (which may be exposed to rain during transportation) and marine equipment identification labels (in high-humidity marine environments).
Fourth, it has certain resistance to chemical corrosion in the outdoor environment. Outdoor environments often contain some corrosive substances, such as acid rain (containing sulfuric acid, nitric acid), dust mixed with chemicals, or dew containing trace salts (in coastal areas). Traditional paper is easily eroded by these substances, with the surface damaged and the content unrecognizable. PP synthetic paper’s chemical stability makes it less reactive with most common outdoor corrosive substances. Acid rain or salt-containing dew will not corrode its surface, and it can also resist the erosion of common outdoor pollutants, ensuring long-term usability in polluted or coastal outdoor environments.
